Workshop held before the 12th Virginia Garrett Lectures on the History of Cartography

On 30 September 2021 the ICA Commission organised the workshop “Coordinating Cartographic Collections”, in conjunction with the 12th Virginia Garrett Lectures on the History of Cartography (University of Texas at Arlington) and the Fall Meeting of the Texas Map Society from 1 to 2 October.
The entire meeting, from Thursday 30 September till Saturday 2 October was a hybrid conference, with both online streaming and in-person attendance at the University of Arlington Libraries Central Library, 6th Floor Parlor and Special Collections.


THEME and PROGRAMME

All three connected events explored the incredibly diverse cosmos of maps in collections. Click here for the programme and a list of speakers and their abstracts.
There was also an accompanying exhibit “Searching for Africa: The Map Collection of Dr. Jack Franke”, featuring over 180 European maps, prints, and illustrated books relating to Africa, primarily drawn from a collection of more than 500 maps donated by Dr. Jack Franke, UTA Distinguished Alumnus, Class of 1987.
